An 'Ape Hangers' Fan in Norfolk Revs Up Effort to Change a Law
Peg Papanek was out for a Sunday drive on her customized Harley-Davidson Sportster last July when she was detained in Canaan by a state trooper. She was shocked when the officer issued her a $75 ticket for having handlebars of a height over 15 inches. The Norfolk resident's handlebars were quite high; she uses the stylized bars bikers refer to as "ape hangers."

That story is either old or purely fictious to rile readers. Virginia repealed the motorcyle handlebar height law in 2003. The Code section was 46.2-1085. Read it for yourself:

Ours is now 6" above your shoulders in CA. Arnie did something kinda good. I think it should be repealed as well as the helmet law, but that is a fight that has not been won yet here...

In a state where a child-less legislator feels she can legislate spanking, and where we need to be told what light bulbs to buy, I don't see the light of reason being legal.

I think the article is actually about repealing the law in Connecticut, which does have a 15" restriction. I say this because the article states "the first public hearing on the issue was held in Hartford" and next paragraph " Ms. Papanek was amazed at the warm reception she received at the capitol." Hartford is the capitol of CT. That and Trantolo and Trantolo runs commercials constantly. And I don't know why a public hearing would be held in CT if they were trying to change a law in VA.
