2008 Nightster with only 400 miles
Hey forum,
I'm in the market for a Nightster, and I've had my eye on one for a week or two that is reasonably priced ($9500 CDN) and seems in good shape by the pictures. However, one thing that concerns me is it only has 400 miles on it (600km, sorry, I'm Canadian). The ad states they had no time to ride.
Should I be weary of a bike with too FEW kilometers on it for it's age? Especially for the price?
Thanks!

Should be OK to buy but you may have to replace tires (check for rot) and I'd surely replace all of the fluids. Sitting can do bad things to a bike too.
Other than that, if you like it - buy it!!

Yeah, I've looked at prices in the States and Nightster's are generally 15%(or more cheaper) than here. Unfortunately the closest State is Montana, and I couldn't find any Nightster's, let alone ones that were cheaper (perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place). I'm going to Las Vegas in July. I wonder if it's worth waiting until then and then driving it home instead of flying. The only problem with that is I lose half of the Canadian riding season
I could get a brand new Iron 883 for $11500CDN (out the door price) from the Harley dealership in Calgary, Alberta where I live. The Iron is my third choice, after the Nightster and Street bob, so I haven't really considered it.

Don't worry about the miles. I bought my '03 bike 2 years ago with 900 miles on it. They had to replace 1 fork seal, but other than that, it's been fine.
If the bike was stored anywhere that had a high humidity, look for corrosion issues, especially on electrical components. As someone said, check the tires. Chances are that the rubber is fine. Unless they are hard or starting to crack, I wouldn't worry about 5-year-old tires with only 400 miles.
Hopefully the bike has had an oil change, but even if it hasn't, you're probably ok. Look for any signs of moisture in the oil.
I was worried about engine seals drying out, or rings seizing. That turned out to be a non-issue. My bike was traded in at the local dealer, so when I got it, I had them do the 1k service, and also got the extended warranty on it... just in case. If you're getting it from a private party, I think you can still purchase the warranty from a dealer for the bike. You might check on that if you're concerned.
I think a bike like that is a great deal! It's like getting a brand new one at a huge discount. The model year isn't a big deal to me, but condition is.
Good luck! Sounds like a nice bike!
