Default Carb tuning question

I just installed the cv performance carb tuners kit on my 01 FXDXT. Before installing it was running a 46 idle jet and 190 main jet. It would occasionally misfire and decel fart, plus it woild idle at 1500+ after riding for a bit. It's got stage 1, and I didn't know if it had ever been rejetted.
I followed the recccomendation of cv performance and put in a 48 idle and 195 main. I went to tune the mixture, warming up the bike and then screwing in the mixture screw all the way. Instead of starting to stumble it slowed very slightly but kept running smooth. A twist of the throttle resulted in a backfire out the carb.
I turned the screw out 2 1/8 turns until it stopped backfiring at all. I did the 45mph full throttle test, and the main jet seems to be great. More power and no hesitation.
But I still idle at 1500+ after riding for a few min. Is the solution simply adjusting the idle speed screw then retuning, or does it sound like my idle jet is too large?

First I would try the idle screw. If this doesn't work then I would go back if and reduce the idle jet to a smaller size. And your sure your enricher is in and throttle is snapping back completely?

This and check the intake gaskets.

You've got four components here. Idle speed set screw, Idle mixture screw, pilot jet (you call it idle jet) and main jet. You need to turn the idle speed down using idle speed set screw. Don't confuse it with the idle mixture or you'll be chasing your tail. You might need to fine tune the idle mixture a little once you get the RPMs down.

Did you pull that plug on the backside of the carb? There's a mixture screw under it that the factory sets on the lean side to meet EPA. Barely pierce it with a small drill, hook it and pull it out. Seat the screw gently, and turn it out about three full turns. The jetting won't help if that thing is still stock.

My CV carbed EVO always idles faster after it is warmed up. I usually start it with the enrichner full out when starting cold, then push it in as soon as it is running, and then keep the idle up a little with the throttle lock till it warms up a bit. I set the idle after it is fully warmed up with the idle speed adjustment. Then you can retouch the idle mixture if you think it needs it. But always set the idle speed with the speed adjustment.

The engine needs to be good and hot to adjust it. run for about 30 min then do your adjustments

The issue with your RPM's at idle is more a function of your idle screw and not your A/F mixture screw. My engine is 95" and I run a 50 slow jet and a 195 main jet. Engine RPM is around 1100 at idle. If you are not backfiring at all on decel, then your A/F mixture screw is set about right at 2 1/8 turns. One other thing to check......pull your choke out and let it idle for a minute or two and then push the choke back in. If RPM's don't go down, your choke cable probably needs replaced, as it is remaining "open" and not functioning properly.
