Road King Classic Buying advise - please help
Hi Folks,
I am ready to pull the trigger on a new RKC. I was at the dealer last night and they really seperate out the bike / accessories / warrantee departments so its harder to haggle for the "whole deal"
Can I ask you folks who've bought a new Harley recently to share some experiences on what to expect to pay, and what the real going price of these things are.
They started with a number that was more than 2k over MSRP and I was horrified.
So the bike is 19899, then Freight, Setup Doc fee etc, and then somehow even more on top. I said look, my starting point is MSRP. I don't know what others pay, but I suspect paying MSRP plus all those fees is a little bit silly.. I have great credit and a good down payment. I live in northern Massachusetts..
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
-Ken

I don't know how much you can haggle with the price but I would think that Spring is a bad time to haggle. When I put my bike in for service on Saturday, the dealer showroom was as crowded as I had ever seen it. Lots of people out there now looking at new bikes. The truth is that if you don't buy the bike at the price the dealer asks, someone else probably will.

I was tough when it came time to haggle. I would haggle on price only. I would rather have the bike be cheaper than have them give me 500 towards upgrades. IMO that's really only 250 in there cost worth of upgrades. End of the month is the best time to do the haggling. 2k over msrp is freaking crazy.

Complete: 250 threads on pulling/pull/pulled the trigger. Good luck, try not to shoot your eye out.
My advice to buying: Find more than one dealer with the bike you want to buy. Use the internet and don't be afraid to road trip to pick it up. Once you pit the dealers against each other you may get a deal. If I was a salesman, I'd be willing to lose a little on commission to put some coin in my pocket, but then again, HD dealers may not allow those types of salesmen, because they rarely budge from MSRP.

...and don't bother buying an extended warranty from whatever dealer you're at. You can certainly get a better price by calling Kutter in Janesville, WI.
You can buy your warranty from any dealer.

A RKC will be a hard model to haggle price on. Might as well accept it now and save yourself the headache and indigestion later.
