2 years ago I test rode a Kawi Voyager, Gold Wing, Victory Cross Country and finally a RGU. I settled on the 2011 RGU for the following reasons.

The Kawi was cheap feeling, kinda like a Bayliner boat- flashy but not solid.

The Gold Wing was wonderfully to ride and I understand why it is the gold standard of touring bikes. But it lacked "soul" for my taste. I still have some testosterone and not that old yet. Service was a negative for me also even though I am sure it is very reliable. Just changing the rear wheel tire or the air filter is a pain.

The Cross Country was a very nice bike to ride and ranked number two on my list. Lack of service locations while traveling around the country was a concern.

The RGU fit me like a glove, gave me inspiration and I put 40k miles on it in the first 18 months. I know there are dealers and Indy mechanics all over the country who can work on it if need be. It has not been as reliable as I had hoped, but except for a starter, all the other issues have been very minor and quickly resolved by dealers.
