Default "Subscribe" in a post means what exactly?

Been wondering... I see people doing this in threads, presumably to keep track of the thread b/c the info is important to them. But how exactly does this help you to find that thread again?

At the top of the thread...

Upper right, to be exact. There is a 'Thread Tools' button. Click that, and you get three options. The last one is 'Subscribe'. Click that and you get an email notifying you when something new is added, like a response.

What ya don't want is to be subscribed to every thread on the forum. That's happened a few times in the past.

I have a computer for browsing the internet, and a phone for making important phone calls. Although, there was a time that I made a few phone calls from my pc, I cannot recall ever browsing the internet with my phone...

(I don't text either! )

In addition to the E-mails, in your CP there is a section for subscribed threads.

What a lot of people do is just make a post in the thread, they will type "subscribed". This is a quick way of subscribing to the thread if you have your preferences setup to subscribe to all threads you post to (being subscribed to a thread gets you emails when someone else posts and allowed you to see a list of threads you are subscribed to for easier reference). If your preferences are not setup that way, then you will need to use the thread tools menu to subscribe to the thread.

Yeh, I got tired of all the emails real quick...

That's why I have changed my settings and now have to use the Thread Tools.

With the subscribe option available in the thread tools, typing 'subscribed' in a thread is a way of driving up your post count without looking like you're post-whoring.
