Havn't tried the Harly trip planner but you can create a route in Mapquest.com and import it into many GPS devices.

I have a Garmin Nuvi (NOT HD), don't remember the model. I create the route I want to ride in Mapquest.com. I just pick the starting and ending point then add some waypoints (or citys) in between to create the route I want. Then plug the Garmin into the USB on my PC. There is a "Send" button on the Mapquest page. After your device is connected the Send button will have the "GPS" option. Name the route and send it. Then in the GPS I go to Routes / Import route and choose the file I just downloaded. Seems a little redundant to have to import a route that I saved as a route but it works.

Then I go to Favorites / Route and select my route. The GPS will then ask me if I want to start at the beginning of the route. Choose No and the GPS will take you to the nearest point on your route and continue.

It works very well. I have different routes to the same destination going cross state so I can mix it up a little.

Don't forget to add waypoints along the way otherwise your GPS will calculate the fastest way from start to end. With waypoints it takes you to the next point not the end destination. Once you start the route it just continues to the destination going through all the waypoints.

Yes. You can do this with most any Garmin device or any device that accepts .gpx files. In the upper right corner of the map area, you will se a tab or button for "GPS Synchronization" that should give you what you want.

you can also "cheat" if you have google maps on your phone.

You can create a map/route on googlemaps on your PC and then save it to "My Maps"

On your phone, you can start google maps, and view that route as an overlay in maps mode. It will not give you guidance, but you can see the route and any waypoints you placed on the map.

Any of the Garmin units that support multiple routes will work with the Harley Trip Planner.
Does not have to be the Harley units.
