I'd love to have a single. I would only have to buy half the number of spark plugs over the life of the bike than I do now. I could use the extra money for beer. I hope it comes out soon.

I have a son & a daughter who both ride the single cylinder Suzuki Savages. They are a great introductory bike-- 650cc, inexpensive, simple to maintain, dependable, & fun to ride. The piston is about the size of a coffee can. The Savage has been renamed the "Boulevard" & been in production since 1986.

I have no doubt that Harley Davidson could fit into this market.

First off...

No one thought to check the date of that article...
August 8, 2012 - It's in the upper left corner.

The 2013s are out already, and they are putting out the 2014 line up. I haven't heard of a single cylinder harley as yet. (Not that I wouldn't ride one.)

And no one took into account that the information was gathered from 'U.S. HD FORUMS'...
"Although the MoCo has denied any plans for mid-displacement low-cost, rumors increasingly are persistent reports of the imminent arrival of a single-cylinder 500 cm3 in the Harley-Davidson."
"...according to the U.S. HD forums..."

Then we have all you macho bad *** biker dudes who 'wouldn't be caught dead on something like that'...

If you are truly macho, and a REAL bad ***... You'd ride anything you like, and be damned to care what anybody thought of it. You just made an *** of yourselves, over a rumor. And an old one at that...

Until it actually happens, everything is a rumor.

Well, I heard they are not only getting ready to introduce a single cylinder entry level bike, but will also be WATER COOLED!

Ya know what? I really don't care as long as they still keep make big twins. I've been around through the AMF years when they had everything from small dirt bikes to snowmobiles, to golf carts and it didn't bother me one bit then and it won't bother be one bit now if they do make one. Let them make what they want as long as it sells and they still keep making the big twins.

Old article or not it would be a great way to get the beginners into the brand. Look how many times people recommend buying a cheap, smallish cc metric to learn on before buying a big twin. It's a market that would be easy to slip into with the right bike. Hell they already have the engine......
