Default Safest helmet to buy?

I'm not really talkin half helmet compared to full face helmet but more certifications. I know DOT certifies helmets but have heard good and bad things. Is there any other organizations that certify helmets? I wear a DOT compliant half helmet but am looking for a good helmet for the wife.

Snell is the higher standard than DOT.

None of them have realistic testing practices like on a crash dummy for example so it's all a guessing game whether one protects you better than another imo.

The full faces are tested by SNELL. Last I heard they didn't test modular full face ones which is what I wear when I'm not wearing my 1/2 which is rarely.

My wife has an HJC full face which she likes. It's DOT and SNELL approved which means they passed the drop from a stepladder test in the laboratory.

Shoei and Arai are two of the much higher priced helmets that reportedly protect your head better.

The Zeus 3000 and LS2 FF394 are 2 SNELL M2010 certified modular helmets.

I wear a Shoei Neotech modular. I love the fit, it is one of the best helmets I have ever worn. Of course the price is very high but out of all the ones I tested it fit the best. I had a regular FF and then went modular, I will stay with modular. Love the flip up.

I would recommend going down to some of the metric shops as they tend to carry more helmets. Try some on and see for yourself. I had to goto a BMW dealer to try out the Neotech.

Check out the videos at Revzilla.
Lots to learn right there...
There is a Nolan Trilogy that is a modular with the biggest eyeport available.
More visibility, less boxed in feeling, is always a plus.

*Update* The helmet is the newest version; Nolan N104 Modular. Lots of vents, too.
