High Winds
All these nice weather threads have me thinking about weather that makes riding not so fun. Do high winds keep you from riding? I'm talking trips of at least an hour away. I mean winds of 20mph-30mph+ like we are having here today and trips you take by choice, not out of necessity.

I'm in Texas and although it was clear yesterday, the wind was blowing 20-25mph and it sucked. Does it stop me? It did yesterday. At a stop light, it was pushing me from side to side and I probably looked like I was drunk.
I know my wife said the wind...not riding wind, is the main thing she hates about riding. And I agree.

I'm like most animals, really high wind bothers me. But, like in Iowa, if you don't learn to deal with you don't ride as much in Oklahoma. Rode yesterday and it was very nice, wind only up to about 15mph, but today at 20+

And try adding gusts of 60mph to the mix.
This happens to me once or twice a year.
This happens to me around the Ellensburg Yakima Vantage area and it's always a surprise. If you stop in it the wind tries to blow the bike out of your hands and if you keep going you are doing a dangerous weave but you have no choice except to keep going till the wind subsides. Those are the days that I hate motorcycling. I can't imagine doing it with apes, that would be suicidal.
Do I head out from my house in a heavy wind? NO.

I rode on the turnpike the other day with some windy/gusty conditions and it was blowing me all over the lane. I just slowed down about 5mph and it seemed to be a bit easier to handle. Not fun but it wouldn't stop me from doing it again.

I'll ride in 20-25 MPH with out much thought other wishing it wasn't blowing so much. When it is blowing/gusting up in the 35-45 MPH range I usually won't ride in it unless I need to. I have rode in that kind of wind and it sucks so I prefer not too. It's a safety thing at that point really. Hell I don't even like going outside when the wind is blowing that hard.
