I am the Lojack Program manager for Washington and Oregon, and around this time we get many phone calls about the Early Warning systems on bikes going off and calling people about their bikes that may be moving and they may well not be.

The unit is powered by the battery, and if you take the battery out of the bike for the winter, or do not have it on a trickle charger, the unit will think a thief took the battery out and will use the back up battery that is not rechargeable to start sending you signals that there is a problem.

I can not for the life of me understand why guys will spend $10-$40K on a bike and not buy a $40 battery tender. Also, make sure you replace your key fobs battery about every 6 months.

So if you have lojack, please keep the battery in the bike and put it on a tender.

 

I have Lojack on my bike and I was told that when they installed the device,that's another reason to keep the battery tender on all the time.

 

Because they don't know the difference between a boxed-end or open-end wrench let alone know how to hook up a charger, and only a certified mechanic should do anything beyond putting gas in it.

 

Many Northerners take their batteries indoors over the winter. Maybe nobody told them to stop doing that with the Lojack.

 

What is this wrench you speak of?

 

Its the thingy that people up north use to assemble their bike lift so their tires don't get flat spots during the winter! ;-)

Extra virgin! While they last. I have a 12" crescent wrench and a hammer. What else could I need. Duck tape

 

so if you take your battery out of the bike, you will kill your back up battery, which is not rechargeable. is it replaceable? and how much does that run?

 

Some folks actually ride their bikes year round so no battery tender is needed.
