Any danger to using adhesive-backed fiberglass to repack quiet baffles?
So I installed my VH slip ons this weekend. The fiberglass wrapped around the model baffle (21899) used for these slip ons was just too bunched up to fit safely into the pipes. I tried trimming much of the fiberglass wrap, but no way. I was in danger of having the damned baffle wedge in the pipe and not come out again.
So, I went ahead and cheated and cut the packing off entirely. Baffles still fit in very snug. And they still do they job, I gotta think. They have a lollipop stopper as opposed to the wide open stock baffles, so the note is nice and throaty.
However, I'm still curious how these baffles would sound with some packing. So I was thinking of using the stuff pictured below to repack the baffles. I think it will pack tight enough for the baffle to fit back in the pipe. And I think it will be dense enough to make a difference in the sound of the pipes.
But my only concern is it is adhesive backed. I don't want any strange fumes, or worse burn off, coming out of my pipes. haha.
Safe to use, or not?

fiberglass packing looks like insulation, it is fluffy like cotton. that is drywall seam tape.. would be like using duct tape. if it is strait through the tape will do nothing but block the holes and make the baffle a drag pipe. if it is a baffle like factory harleys use, where the exhaust flows through the packing, the engine wont run at all. either way,if it runs that tape will burn up in no time at all.

I've got the same quiet baffles in my bike. They come from V&H with the fiberglass held in place with tape. You are to install them with the glass taped in place and after you start the bike the tape melts and the baffle screw holds the glass in. It gets real hot so anything that will burn will burn in the pipes. I don't think you will hear much difference with or without the glass though as there isn't much there, the plug in the end of the baffle does most of the work.

My opinion, I wouldn't use it....I have been re-packing my Rush baffles with Helix Brand Wrap.....

Good stuff, sounds great, sound depends on tightness and density of wrap around baffles.....Good Luck Sir

My baffles were a bitch to get in so I wrapped them with a bit of scotch tape. I knew it would burn off after a few hours of use and be good to go. It did and it was.

Ok. So I wont use that stuff. Thanks for the help.
I actually tried leaving the tape on the VH baffles with the fiberglass on. Way too tight to work. Then I tried adding packing tape around the fiberglass to hold it snugger. Still way too tight to work. Finally I tried trimming some of the fiberglass and using the packing tape. Still way too tight.
So I finally just took the fiberglass off entirely and baffles fit. Just barely.
Maybe I just have thicker baffles than you guys. .
Seriously though I might just leave things as is. The rumble is nice. Or get some of the fiberglass a few of you referenced and try a thin repack. Probably wont make much a difference but Im curious.
