What is the term 'wallet biker'?

If they are never used quality doesn't matter. I had a tool box for the track when I raced, all cheap tools in case they walked. Same with the emergency tool bag I carry in my Jeep.
I must say I have some really old Craftman stuff that has lasted pretty well.

a buddy of mine used to like to hit the shop every weekend and joked his wife told him he could only go on his bike because otherwise he would come home with stuff to install; not much you could carry on a Dyna. Of course much of that went straight out the window when he bought an Electra Glide

My .02
Real bikers today are same as yesterday and will be tomorrow.
True 1% bikers. (Can’t say names, ancient Chinese secrets)
The rest of us, posers, wannabes, wallet bikers, rubs, enthusiasts, riders, etc in our little gangs with formalities or as “lone wolves”(always laugh seeing that patch)…in the end we all get along unless typing on a forum.
Ride on!

Hate to say it but the Dyno threads are full of it. To go fast and feel like a tough guy… folks won’t learn what fast really is. Wont learn how to ride, tune or build.. instead they settle believing a number on paper means the bike and it’s combination is at it full potential.
It’s too much work or effort to learn those skills. Far easier to trade money and make it someone else’s problem and then hand it back so a person through his wallet can feel like a tough racer..
The dyno was a tool to get folks super close then you’d measure it’s truth from that starting point and really tune it doing what it needs to do.. hill climb, dirt track, drag race, road race, endurance race. The tuning is not the same… but that takes work and really doing what the bike was built for. Nah.. just drop your bike off with a CC number and pick it up later, get a piece of paper that says I’m fast.
I read arguments where they measure one another by “who” the tuner is. “My guy is better tuner than your guy” “my bike is more prestigious than yours because celebrity tuner so n so did it, your guys a hack” “My paper is faster than your paper because your reading the graph wrong”
Dyno’s can be useful and rewarding I guess… but it’s not a replacement to real world riding and personal knowledge.

A Dyno is a very useful tool. I’ve certainly used them. Great for finding if a combination of parts is working well or if a change makes a noticeable difference, or exposes a part that just doesn’t work with that combination. But it’s not as absolute as the asphalt and guys around here completely forget that.
Why, because they can buy that piece of paper. It’s easier. And whoever has the most money, and the best connections to the celebrity tuner wins on paper.

I’ve got a buddy, he made sacrifices his whole life. Raised his kids, took care of his parents, dealt with his wife with surgeries and cancer hard-working. Great guy. Always wanted a Harley never had the money. Gets his kids through college, sacrificed things that were important to him personally. Finally as a retired guy he goes out and buys a brand new Harley. I love this guy. He’s awesome. I don’t see him as a rub or wallet biker. He’s just a guy fulfilling his dream and really enjoying his bike.
The M8 is the perfect bike for him. Why, he can use the money he saved his whole life to go buy a big inch powerful motor and have it completely under the warranty of a dealer to take care of. It’s the perfect platform for that guy. Well, I could afford to go buy a new Harley and possibly get all the bells and whistles. I would be completely upside down with my investment at a ridiculous level. I wouldn’t know how to repair it myself with all the computerized shenanigans. And personally, and I do mean personally, I would not get the same satisfaction out of that. But making a shovelhead or an Evo go that fast, and you have to engineer it, design it, build it, tune itt, is very rewarding. At the end of the day, I hope I’m making the same power as the big M8’s. I hope and believe it will be just as reliable. I soon will know for sure.
Everybody’s circumstances are different. And I haven’t walked in everyone’s shoes. But to me a wallet Biker, is the lazy guy. He just uses his wallet to buy recognition.
