Default home made exhaust question

Hi guys,

Serious post here! I've put this thread in the dedicated section, but got no answer, I'll put the same here, knowing there is more traffic right here

wanting to adapt my existing 2-into-2 stock exhaust into a cheap 2-into-1 "à la" 1957 Sportster, like the picture I crapped on "paint" here under:

So, I just want to fab a section of pipe to connect the stock front header pipe to the stock rear header pipe, ditching the front muffler and keeping the rear muffler for both cylinders, don't want to have more noise nor higher power. No big deal till now, just a little grinding, bending a tube, some wrenching and welding.

Now, the question is:

What should I have to do on that muffler?

- leave it as it is, the exhaust flow of the two cylinders won't disturb anything, it will work, you "el cheapo" guy

- Change or adapt the muffler to get more flow, your engine wont breath at it should do, you sucker

Any exhaust nerd's input welcome

Contact the guys at Sporty Specialties. They make a custom 2 in 1 exhaust for sportsters and should be able to answer all of your questions.

you'll need to upsize everything after the merge to handle both cylinders

Dude, buy a V&H Propipe and be done with it.
Rule of thumb: Cheap ALWAYS comes out more expensive - it never fails (learned this the hard way many years ago).

Thanks y'all for your inputs.

the only good looking (to me) 2 into 1 pipe I've found is the paughco one, but they don't do it for EFI rubber mounted bikes with the O2 sensors. This is why I thought of transforming my pipe myself, or let my indy do the job for me

Yes, I imagine that, but how much does it to be upsized, that is my main question.

I indeed could buy myself a 800 $ 2-into-1 set and be done, I just don't want to spend that money on that. Other priorities, too many hobbies...

If it was me I'd buy a pair of cheap slip-ons off Craigslist, and give it a shot. The worst thing that can happen is you loose power or you're not happy with the way it looks. You can always buy somebody else's stock exhaust.
