They are asking a fair price. 5500 would be a great deal if its in good shape. Pick any city on Craigslist, put 3500 in for the max price, and you will not find a single big twin for sale. It there were 3000-4000 softails out there, I would have a lot more bikes in the garage than I do. Look at the market, don't take the word of these "Internet experts" as suggested above.

Thanks for the link and advice Geoff - went down there and got it for $5500!

Lol - I wish. I'm sure you snapped it up. I don't care what anyone says, that's a nice bike at a good price. If you got it (I'm assuming you did) for anything less, you did very, very well. Anything around here under $7k will probably be a real pooch.

If you didn't do the deal, I very well might. Let us know.

It's almost identical to my '98, & yea, worth the asking price.

Thanks to all for the input.

I test rode the bike yesterday. It checked out fine, so I left a deposit.

Dang!

I mean congratulations! That's a sweet bike. Mind telling the final price?

I bought my 99 Softail Custom for $7,100 almost 4 years ago with 17,000 on it. I thought I got a great deal, and I would not sell it for less than $8,500 now. I think these older Softails with EVO,s are probably going to start going up in price just like the Shovels are now. I have 37,000 on mine now, and I would not trade it for a new one. That is what I think of it. I have ridden a lot of bikes, and this one is the most fun by far of all of them.

Looks like a well kept low mileage bike in pictures.
Price seems reasonable also.
Will cared for, unmolested, low mileage older bikes make good deals for those that know how to turn a wrench. Sometimes little things like gaskets, tires and small plastic/rubber stuff require change-out regardless of how it was kept. Even then they can be a deal if you can do some of the change-out stuff yourself. The issue is when people want no maintenance, do not want to learn, have no time or are unwilling to turn a screwdriver because then a few gaskets and plastic/rubber pieces could easily eat $1 or $2 thousand...For those individuals only a new or warrantied bike would be suggested (at a significant premium).

I agree IM. In 20,000 miles I have had to replace the regulator and the stator on mine. I am 72 years old but do all my wrenching which saves a bunch of money. And that is the great thing about EVO's, they are easy to work on. I have 13,000 miles on my tires, and they look like they are good for another 3 to 4,000. As far as maintenance on mine it has cost me very little. I just ride it without worry as it always gets me where I want to go and brings me home. My FI Twin Cam buddys spend way more than I just to change pipes.

Bet you can talk em down at least $700. They probably gave no more than 4 grand on the trade in. If they don't budge on the price, wait. It's at a BMW dealership, and it's not a bike that should sell quick. If you can wait it out, and aren't afraid of taking a chance of losing it, watch the price drop. Especially this time of year in a cold weather state, not to mention the holidays around the corner. I don't think that bike is going anywhere any time soon. Unless you buy it. Good luck.
