Default Engine number blues

Hi all i am new to this forum and have read about identifing engine numbers and searched the internet till the brain will hold no further info...but am still unable to identify the engine i have bought to fit into my bike. the engine number is BHLH019651, BH presumably means its an FXST of some sort and L is Evo 1340cc, but the H for year designation has me beat, usually an X or a number to identify the year, can anybody help please.

I dont think that 1987 is correct as this engine is a twin cam, a TC88A i think as it has no rubber mounts. Therefore the L engine designation in the engine number is also incorrect as it says that the engine is supposed to be an Evo 1340. I'm lost can anybody help please.

My TC 88 is rubber mounted. But that's all I have. Someone here will have an answer for you soon enough. Their are some pretty sharp character's around here.
Oh yea, welcome to the HD forums. Kick back with a coldie and await all the replies. Some will likely be more entertaining than informational. It's all here! Lol

'84-'99 softails were not rubber mounted. The twin cam for the softail has balance shafts to quell vibration, known as the TC88B. You could easily have a solid mount EVO engine out of a softail. Look at pictures of the TC and the EVO engines from the carb side, (google images) you can easily tell an EVO engine from a later twin cam that way.

This website indicates your engine came from a softail. No other specific information was given.

It's an Engine from a 1987 FXST, an Evo Softail Standard.

Correct!

BH=Model Designator (FXST), L=Engine Type (1340 Evolution), H=Model Year (1987), 019651=Sequential Number.
