I would make sure that the boot you purchase has the oil resistant sole. It will assist in keeping your boots from slipping on someone else's fluids.
For comfort and weight savings, I prefer a composite toe over the steel toe.
Nearly everyone wears black boots. Be different and go with brown.
Personally, my favorite pair of boots are my Wolverine hiking boots with oil based soles. Not as much protection, but more comfortable than the traditonal leather boot. If you spend a lot of time off the bike (like at rallies), then you will appreciate the comfort.

You feel my pain bro. Thanks for the info. I'll give them a call when Im ready for some boots. Probably around tax time.

They send you a paper where you trace out your foot and mesure around every 2 inches and they keep it on file. Also you can request a fire fighter soal that better resists burning if you need that FWIW.

I wear these, but w/o the steel toe, the double thick leather and wooden sole plate give a lot of protection and if crushed wont pinch your toes off.

I have both Wesco and Whites boots, in both the smoke jumper (lace up) and the engineers styles.
Both of these brands are made in the U.S.A. and are some of the best I've seen.
I have a pair of Chippewa engineers boots, and by comparison, they appear intended to be worn by a five year old child. Sometimes, you do get what you pay for.

This is what I have. They are actually made for quad/MX riding. I like them and they are pretty comfortable. And most important I feel they offer very good protection. I have the black ones. No zippers, no laces.
