Default Import parts from the US or pay UK prices?

Hi

Apologies if this been addressed - I searched but could not find much.

I want to buy some extra parts for my Harley - I have a quote from my local UK dealer but when I tot up for the same parts direct from the US Harley site I save £££'s! I understand import taxes are an issue but is there an independent dealer in the states that might send things over as 'gift'?

Just to see if anyone had any experience here - advice?

Thanks

In all honesty, by the time you pay shipping, import duty and VAT, there's not a massive difference in prices at the current exchange rate.
General rule of thumb is what price you see in $, it will cost you that in £ delivered to your door at home.

Also. US dealers have been instructed not to ship internationally to protect foreign dealerships.

Good luck though.

You might save on big ticket items but I seem to always get caught by the tax man these days.

Try Jersey HD. VAT free so 20% off compared to your local dealer. I usually use their prices online to go beat up my local dealer as they usually have 80-100% mark up in genuine HD accessories.

I'm not familiar with Her Majesty's Custom laws, but I think that expensive, brand new parts wouldn't clear Customs if duty is not paid even if labeled as"gift",besides HD dealerships in the US are forbidden to sell abroad.

Unfortunately, Customs & Excise are pretty wise to parts coming in labeled as a gift.

It's an obvious fraud and if they decide you are being a very naughty boy, they'll never let you go.

Not sure how your customs works. But you can have the HD dealer ship (Like newcastle) to a freight forwarder like myus.com. And then have myus.com ship via dhl. They will label it as gift, but like above said, customs are wise to this. I did this when lived in Singapore where parts where very expensive and was still cheaper to pay the shipping charges.

Personally, no but I know people who have.

Fortunately for me, I visit the US for work quite a lot so I bring back what I need in my suitcase.
