Default Do you shift without the clutch?

During my truck driving years I shifted gears al the time without the clutch. In fact about the only time I used the clutch was at starting from a full stop. Just wondering if anyone was doing this on their bike.

Why would you, other than when the clutch cable goes?

The trans on the scooter is a completely different animal from the trucks that I have driven. There is no way to hesitate between the gears. I have never shifted the scooter without the clutch but I know a guy that claims he does it all the time. I think he is full of chidt.

It is possible, especially up shifting. Downshifting takes more skill. I broke a clutch lever once and had to drive 300km's to get a replacement, good times.

But for driving around the street it isn't required, and if you match your road speed to engine speed at the right time you risk doing damage to the gearset in the tranny.

cheers

Only a couple of times to get home with a broken clutch cable.

No but I put a little pressure on the shifter slightly before I pull the lever. It gives it a nice precise feel.

The old 4 speeds you could shift on the fly with blipping the throttle but they have a much hardier gear set than the 5 & 6 gear boxes . These new ones will not put up with much before they lunch .
