Discovered a new riding danger yesterday

Worst shock I ever got in the house, was when I was cleaning up my basement and there were some magazines on the floor. I reached down and picked them up and along with them I picked up a garter snake, at least 2 feet long. I'm not afraid of snakes, but that one made me yell - then I had to chase him all over the room to catch him again and put him outside.

I have encountered all sorts of critters in the road. Large & small. Domestic & wild. My rule of thumb is never ride faster than you can stop in the distance that you can see.
I have also encountered elk in the DB Forest too.

I don't know if it actually qualifies as a bite, but I heard a story once about a guy running over a snake and when he got home and took off his boot there was a snake's fang stuck in it.

Went on about a 270 mile group ride yesterday, through the Daniel Boone National Forest. At one point we were going down a mountain through some curves when I saw the woman in front of me look down at something on the road a swerve. As I got closer I saw it was a 2-3 foot snake, coiled to strike, with his head held about 6-7 inches from the road. Later the guy behind me said he was striking at each bike as it went by. Never seen that before. Far as I know, we all missed him - not sure what kind it was, but the area has copperheads and rattlesnakes, among others.

Oh, c'mon... that was funny! You know... snakes, salesmen, get it?
