Default is it worth adding 06 heads to a older twincam?

From what I here the 06 heads are way better then the 99to 2005 head's. Is the change worth it. For bikes with stage 1 with cams

I've learned the same thing about '06 heads: Better porting, bee hive springs.

But on my touring bike I never go past 4,000 rpm so for me I don't think it matters much.

I've got 2 sets of '00 heads, ( picked up a take off set for $100,) and I think that when the current heads start showing signs of wear, I'll swap them out and just freshen the old ones up.

If you're pulling red line though, I'd be looking at a set vs a "street port" job of what you're running now, if you got them cheap. Otherwise the street port of your current heads makes the most sense to me.

I used new-bike-take-off '08 heads for my 95" build and and like the way it runs. I bought the heads locally for less than what it would have cost to have my '04 heads ported.

I've read they are better,, but still not as good as a good street port job.

Not way better, but better. It all depends on what your looking for and how much they cost you. A street port on the older heads start at $299 from some shops. The street port on an older head is better than the new head by a larger margin than the new head is better than the old stock. If I picked up the new heads for under $100, then I would use them. Otherwise not worth it

It's my understanding the head was a mid year design change. I know not when the change took place or whether or not I have the updated heads on my scoot. It'd be nice to know however. Maybe someone here knows and will share.

I can't tell you about the port configuration of the '96 and newer heads but they do have thinner valve shafts and shorter guides that don't protrude as far into the ports as they did in the earlier heads. They also have beehive springs and upgraded seals.
