RE: I'm fed up! And I've decided to do something about it!
I have had continual bad experiences wsith parts guys at the dealer. Either the oens who know their stuff have attitude, I can't even get an answer on the phone, or they don't know anything and I can't get an answer on the phone. Oh yeah, then there are the wrong answers to questions that I figure they should know since they work at the dealer. Since they are retarted there, they don't get my business. Do I make a big deal out of it? Nah, there are lenty of people to support this horrible dealer with their hard earned money. I get my part numbers there if needed, look at the stuff, and then order from Zanotti or Chicago HD. I ahve gotten more WRONG answers to questions I ahve asked from those parts guys than correct answers. Screw them. I ahve another dealer that is about 15 miels away as opposed to 2 miles and they are much better, but they are always so crowded just like the other. I use the forums to answer my questions. If I can't get the answer here, It doesn't exist...

If you can get a Harley dealer to come crawling into YOUR office, hat in hand, to receive a dressing-down, than things have really changed. Because most dealers just don't give a $#!+. They make more money selling t-shirts than parts anyway.

I feel your pain! Let us know how the meeting with the owner turns out.
I have been experiencing similar issues with one of my local dealerships. My problem is with the service dept though. I have to say the accessories and parts folks at my dealership are top notch. Just too bad the customer service level falls off the map when you walk into the service dept.

Exactly.
No sense having a stroke over this. Like nine11c2 said, you can't change the world. I'd look for another dealer and order what I can off the web.

I think you're wasting your time. While H-D is very involved in the product and in the aftermarket product (strict quality standards), I believe they have some say on what a dealership looks like, but I believe they have no say on who they hire. You'd expect that they believe that dealers will need to hire based on need and the need to make a profit.
A local dealer is a friend of a couple of buddies. They can't justify hiring certified guys, mechanics and such. You know what? They always mess up my bro's bike, my buddies bike and many of the HOG chapters bikes. I got a bike in my garage that this guy did much of the work on including installing Reinhardts. Bike is a 103 and I believe horribly set up. First, it's got no power and second, it gets hot hot hot sitting still for 10 minutes. I think it's running WAY lean. I don't talk to the HOGS, but my buddy who is one says that this dealer is po'd cause many of the members are using the dealer, 25 miles away, that I bought my bike from that has good service.
You cannot tell someone how to run their business. Should they hire better guys? Yeah. Can they? Well, they can, but then no new SeaRay this summer. My prediction is scream all you want. Only one who is gonna get his pressure up is you. You MAY get them to watch when you're comin and treat you with kid gloves, maybe throw you some free stuff. I don't believe you'll effect the service of the dealer and I don't believe by contacting H-D you'll get anthing accomplished. To a large extent they can't tell a dealer who to hire I don't beleive.
Find a good dealer, buy from Jim as suggested above, Zannotti's, Motor City H-D. Do research. Heck use HD-Forums. I get my stuff answered better here 9 out of 10 times better than the dealer. Ya can't fix the world.

RE: I'm fed up! And I've decided to do something about it!
Anymore I do all the leg work myself when it comes to getting parts.
I just walk up to the parts department andhandthe counter persona list of the parts number of items I need.
Even so, I've still had them ask me if I'm sure that is the part I want, as they try to recommend something else.
Quicker, faster, and at least I get the correct items.

This sounds great in theory, but in the real world you need to pick your battles or you'll end up dead from a stroke or in the looney bin. Trust me, I deal with this stuff all the time and fight the battles I choose to. The idea you should fight everything and expect you'll win everytime and affect change is just not realistic. We could take this down to the leve that the guy at the McDonalds drive through gave me a Coke instead of Diet Coke. Should I go in there and rip him a new one because I'm not going to put up with his crappy service? Of course not, it's all about picking your battles. Just my 2 cents......
But I wish the OP luck.

That's BS, if you keep rollingover (and shopping somewhere else eventually your going to run out of places) Its up to us to call these moronsout, if you don't want to that's fine, the rest of us who WILL get involved will. That's one of the problemsnowaday's, nobody wants to get involved and that's crap I'll bet that owner (if he'sany kind of businessman at all) is interested in how his employees are treating good paying customers. NOBODY deserves that kind of service and there's no excuse for it. my.10

Good Luck, I hope your meeting with the owner helps. I think it's sad the way alot of stealers treat people. I have been on the wrong end of a few dealings myself lately, almost to the point of dragging someone across the counter (parts and service). I can't deal with my local dealer anymore. Canceled my HOG chapter membership there, canceled my extended warranty. It's a shame it has to come to that when you lay down that much money on a bike.

Respectfully, and with regard to this whole 'what they earn/wage' thing. But.......(insert pause here)........who gives a **** what they make? Whatever it is that they make is made by choice. Following that rationale, are we to go to the counter and ask for the $20.00 dollar an hour guy? As if his service/advice should be some 8-12 dollars better than the others? Of course not. Some of you lay claim to what people are making almost as if we are to feel sorry for them or have some measure of compassion for why they treat us like ****! Gimme' a break. They make what they make and it should have absoluely no bearing toward the individuals on the opposite end of the counter. If we start using what people make 'as an excuse' then that only solidifies our own willingness to take **** and ask for seconds in my view! In my book, do your job and do it right. Don't like what you make? Find another job. But you're not going to hang around here mucking up my business in the interim.

Those guys probably make 8-12 bucks an hour, and lets face it, its not a career for most of them, so most of them just don't care if they misinform you or blow you off....
