You should do fine on most of the Softails or Dynas.
I'd recommend you avoid bikes with forward controls (feet way out in front) at least for a first bike.

Bikes can be a real challenge to ride with a full on hard on. Might I suggest the company of a good woman (or skank, up to you) before you go riding. You'll be more relaxed and it'll be easier to steer.

You want to make sure you make the right decision the first time...changing bikes can get expensive,

Lmao! Got some characters in here I see! Thanks for the input so far. I'm just really anxious to get going with this. Just wanna make the right choice and not wind up a wet spot on the road! Like the one member said, I wanna make the right choice first, don't wanna be ride swapping a lot. Want the bike that will last my lifetime!

40 eh? Midlife crisis time? Sounds like you're doing it right. Take the class, maybe find a friend who rides who can go with you a time or two and show ya the ropes. Don't worry about the size of the bike--get what you want. Lots of people, including myself, buy a small bike the first time. It isn't long before they start regretting it wishing they had gone with the bigger one.

Be safe, have fun and congrats. Hope to see photos of the new scoot real soon.

you should be fine, assuming you're not tiny.
Do the course and remember to apply it while riding. Practice all the small things so they become good habits right from the start and you'll always do them. The biggest difference between the bikes will be weight, most harleys arent going to throw you off the back if you accelerate a little hard unexpectedly, etc. My first street bike was a Honda CBR600, now THAT has alot more that can go wrong with a new rider than a Fatboy does.

Also great choice for bikes, i went FB obviously, but i think the Slims are awesome looking bikes
