Default Exhaust paste?

does anyone know of a sealer to use on slip on mufflers?

What have you done to ensure a airtight seal?

Thanks

A good quality muffler should fit snugly to a Harley headpipe, with no "paste" required. Harley muffler clamps do the job.

Stay away from the cement type sealers. That stuff will "weld" itself to the pipes and cause a real mess when removing/reinstalling the next time.

FWIW, I've found that using a pipe expander to make sure each end of the pipe and muffler is round instead of oval makes for a good seal.

Hope that helps!

Not to seal but anti-seize is recommended for ease in taking off the mufflers.

As I remember, the factory used clear RTV silicone on the pipe/muffler joints on my bike.

Permatex Ultra Copper RTV silicone. It is designed for this kind of application. I use it on car and truck collectors all the time too. I stays pliable enough to keep a seal for years, and comes apart fairly easily too.

Try the Ultra gray not the copper , it blends in better for the little bit you can't get to wipe off . Been using it on shovels & pans to hold pipes on the heads for years .

I used RTV Hi-Temp, it's black. Indy used the copper anti-seize and it leaked by and burnt my muffler.
