It's gloss paint and turning the chrome into brushed nickel using a flappy wheel on a die grinder. Scuff through the chrome until you get into the nickel but not so far as the copper. I'm not simply blacking out the bike. It's making something you can't buy and customizing a bike without using a credit card. For those that don't dig it that's fine but it's a different kind of feeling going from worrying about keeping everything shiny and pristine and saying "f^%$ it" and be different. For those that want I'll try to post pics as I go. Gonna do the mirrors horn cover coil cover teardrop toolboxes (made a bracket so that I can fit one on the left side too) and air cleaner tonight.

Sounds like you're going for the Exile Cycles Russel Mitchell look.
He would score the chrome to give it a more industrial look.

 

Exile does make some kickass bikes. He did give me some ideas and I don't really know how to leave well enough alone

Sounds badass! I like seeing chrome knocked down. Southeast Custom Cycles has done this on a few bikes , looks awesome.
