When did this happen?
I remember in the '90s when the Street Glide wasn't called the Street Glide at all, it was the Electra Glide Standard. It only came in black and it was an entry level bike that sold for starting in the 13,000s. Now it's a Street Glide and it seems like a highly popular bike. And way more expensive. Was this a genius Harley marketing move or what?

If it wasn't called a Street Glide in the 90's then it wasn't a Street Glide.
I was out at a local dealer today checking out the '13's. They had several '12's with different set ups. From bare bones to fully dressed.

There was no such thing as a Street Glide in the 90's There was an Electra Glide and then in 2006 they introduced the Street Glide while still selling the Electra Glide. I would not call any of them entry level though. A Sporty or Dyna is entry level

They did the same thing with the old "Electra Glide Sport" model (FLHS). 1993 was the last year for that model. They "black-n-chromed" the engine, gave it a fancy headlight, re-arranged the instrumentation, and re-introduced it as the "Road King".
Instant best-seller.

Same thing with the Tour Glide and Road Glide. The MoCo is great at reinventing themselves with small changes and charging big bux for it.

Some of the high end auto manufacturers are good at this trick too.
They take out the stereo, air con, sound deadening and stick on a few graphics.
Voila!!! Lightweight limited edition racing model that costs more

We can blame Willie G. for that. Before 1971 ,when he introduced the Super Glide, there was the Electra Glide and the Sportster. Now we have a virtual alphabet of Harley Davidson motorcycles. Changes every year. No one can keep up with the changes.
