it's usually worth a few chuckles when someone on an older and/or converted bike has it in gear and forgets to pull in the clutch before hitting the starter...(assuming no major damage or injuries of course)

yep...done that dumb dumb move a few times over the years. Never dropped one doing it but it never fails to make you look like a fool.

Common misconception. The cable adjuster is for adjusting the cable, something you do after adjusting the clutch itself.

It should be called a slack adjuster!

lol...and I as well. The most recent time I bumped it up hard against the curb in front of me with a bunch of coworkers watching.

I shouldn't be surprised so many start their bike in gear since my owners manual clearly says "Always shift the bike into neutral before starting to prevent possible movement". Lots of really good info in that owners manual. Some guys should try reading it. Your starter just might last a little longer if you did.

When my neutral safety switch went out in my lever I could only start in neutral. FWIW.
