New bike
Hi Guys
Well I am new here and in need of some advice.
I went to my local HD dealer here in Sydney Australia to enquire about a IRON 883 because I love the look and I am a mechanic so wanted to put the 1200 kit on one. I had the cash and was ready to take one away but when I told him what I was looking for he asked how much I weigh? I told him 90kg
He told me that the 883 would be no good for me because the motor would be screaming its **** off going down the highway at 60mph with my weight and told me i needed a street bob. Well I do not have the cash for a street bob and it is not what I was after.
I was disappointed to say the least I thought I would be riding the IRON to work today.
So question is should I take this guys advice or was he just trying to upsell me?
Will the motor be screaming it **** off at 60mph with a 90kg guy on it.

That sounds like a load of bull. You can find the weight limits for the bike online. Good luck.
The bike weighs in at 565lbs (256kg) and the gross weight is 1000lbs(453kg). You can put 435lbs(197kg) on it supposedly. Your 200lbs(90kg) ain't nothing. Salesman is a douche.

I totally agree. Its going to be taching the same RPM's @ 60 MPH regardless of how much you weigh. I'm a bit over 115kg and my 883 had no problems hauling my big a$$ wherever I wanted to go.

I'm pretty close to 300 lbs (135 kilograms) and my little sister's 883 Custom will easily do 80 mph (120 ish kilometers per hour) with me on it. It won't do it as quickly or as comfortably as my RoadKing, but it will do it. I'd say someone was trying to lead you down the garden path.

Cheers Guys
Yeah to me it did not make sense. I think I will go for a ride to a different dealer this afternoon and have a chat. He was really pushing the street bob on me for some reason and I felt like he had no passion for bikes he was just a salesman trying to make a bigger commission. He would not even let me go for a ride on the 883 to get a feel of it.
I did notice the new 2013 lineup while I was in there and the new XL1200C with the candy orange/beer bottle colour might be another potential bike but I was not going to tell him that.

Here in the USA we have a technique for dealing with salesmen like yours. It's called the "full on, full frontal, full throttle ball kick".
Seriously, ask for the sales manager and tell him you are there to buy a bike, not be sold one.
Happy ridin' man...

You'll be fine mate. The little 883 will push you along just fine. With the 1200 installed, even better.
I'm 210-215 I'd ride my ex gf's 883 Low from time to time and it doesn't embarrass its self. It's not gunna win too many drag races though!
Go back to the dealer , get the Iron, and do a big friggin burnout in the lot!
