Default Group riding stop sign question.

When riding in a group and approaching a stop sign, how many bikes can proceed through the intersection legally without restopping, specifically in IL? Anyone know? I've tried Googling it and looking in the IL Motorcycle handbook from the DMV. I can't turn anything up specific to IL. I know in some areas 2 bikes can stop alongside each other and take off together. I've heard some states allow as many as 5.

What is legal in your area? What do you typically do when with a group?

Anyone have help for IL specifically?

Stop means STOP! But a chrome gusshy holder will get you extra points if you stop twice.

In Illinois each bike has to come to a complete stop before proceding. There or no exemption for motorcycles

I believe I should ride for myself, that means if the bike in front of me proceeds through a stop sign, whether he stops or just slows down and then goes I need to trust me more than the person in front of me. So I will stop and check that I am safe to go. I've ridden with people who turn into traffic when there was just enough space and time for themselves but not enough for 2 bikes or more.

Here in Alberta, my understanding is that each vehicle has to stop in turn at the intersection before it can proceed. In other words, you cannot stop behind a guy and go when he goes.

It can depend on whether or not there's a Stop line painted on the road. With the line, each bike must stop at the line.
If there is no painted line and if all riders in the group have clear visibility of cross traffic (or in this case, the lack of traffic) while stopped together near the sign, they can proceed together.

Note: traffic laws vary by state, so it's best to check your own.

+1 on that. Stop means stop. Pretty simple really.

I rolled a stop sign once and got stopped by a cop. He came up to my window and asked if I knew that rolled through the stop sign. I told him that I realized that I hadn't come to a complete stop, but I did slow down. He asked me if I came home and found him in bed with my wife and I yelled stop...would I want him to stop or simply slow down?
