New tires...Dunlops or Metzler 880's?
It is REALLY time for new tires now. I have been putting this off for a while. It is either the stockers, or metzler me880's. Any opinions? How long do the metzlers generally last? My dunlop on the rear was on the bike when I bought it, and i have put about 8000 miles on it, and is nearly bald. Will I get that many miles out of a metzler? Alsdo got a quote from some place for 2 metzlers and to ride the bike there for them to change the tires and it was about $400. Does that sound about right, or maybe a little high? I know if I take my wheels off myself I will save. I used to always do that, just gotta revamp my tool collection...

Dunflops are good tires but the Metz will build confidence and stick to the road much better. Mileage also goes up between changing tires. JMHO

I know I'll like the handling characteristics much better as they are rounder with less sidewall, but I am concerned I might wear it out in a couple of thousand miles. I used to wear out the edges much quicker than the center riding sportbikes...

I have ridden Metzlers for years. I get good mileage (keep air press correct) and like how they handle.
Go for it.

I've had the GT591 "Screamin Eagle " Dunlops , ME 880's and Avon AM41/42's The Metzelers and Avons are great , very similar , I get a bit better wet/dry traction with the Avons, both great mileage. The Dunlops , like the stock ones just don't wear as well , ride as smooth or grip as good.

Just got a Metzler ME880 for the rear and installed it was $160, balancing $15 extra. Haven't been able to ride due to weather.Have heard Avons wear out faster due to a softer compound rubber, better traction, and Metzler is a higher milage tire, as advertised, but Dunlop was out on strike so I went with Met.
