I"m surprised they don't have an automated response that says "that's normal, they all do that" or "whatever bad engineering or parts problem you're experiencing will be addressed in 5 years or so".

Yes, and talking to them directly is about as useless.
Here's the number, it will error out 2 to 3 times before connecting to a human, even then, you'd be better off talking to the machine.

That is true. I was on of those people that emailed Steve Jobs, and got a response. I now work for Apple, many years later. ( No relation to the email, though. )
