Default Sturgis Rally Deaths Mounting

41 accidents and 7 dead at or near Sturgis Rally. Brother, sounds like a unsafe place to be. Alcohol, speed and deer hits the news states.

yes, statistically when you get that many people together stuff will happen- just like births and deaths at Woodstock.

Like any other bike event you get a fair number of inexperienced riders, some show offs and a fair amount of drinking, too much sun, not enough sleep and other factors affecting judgement.

That many bikes in once place at one time, add in all the other factors(drinking, unfamiliar roads, testosterone,) stuff is bound to happen.

That's exactly why I don't go to big rallies. There's just too much of everything good & bad.

On one hand I want to go to Sturgis next year, (my first time) just to experience it, but I would only go at the begiing or end, just to catch a day or two. I hate crowds.

Not surprised by the things that happen. If I worried about what if to the point it kept me from riding------------I wouldn't have to change the oil in my two Harley's as often. Things happen and reading about them is a tool to use to tilt the odds in our favor. Just never want to make the bad statistics. I worry about over reaction and knee jerk solutions to what is a hazard to riding.

I was at Sturgis years ago. Rode in from NJ and arrived on Wednesday afternoon and stayed till Sunday morning. A little less crowded and caught some good deals on stuff at the end of the rally. I too don't care for the big crowds, spent most of my time outside of Sturgis. Lots of good riding in the area.

My buddy was riding north out of Hill City and there were 6-8 Bighorns in the road. He said it was a close call!
