Default Riding around San Francicso

Hi from England,
I am planning to fly to SFO in April and hire a Harley to do a 3 day tour around Napa Valley area.
Any opinions as to where to go, good roads, and places to stay?
Also what about the weather at that time - is it good for riding?
Thanks for any replys,
Lloyd.

Welcome from Tucson, Arizona. I've only been in that part of the country one time but if I recall correctly, you will love the weather and all you have to do for a beautiful ride is just head north on Highway #1. Enjoy your vacation.

The weather in the Napa Valley can be anything in April. Dry, wet, cold, or very warm. I believe last year we had rain at least once every day for about 30+ days in the Spring ( which was a little unusual, but my buddy who bought a brand new Night Train in March didn't appreciate it ). It can also be VERY beautiful, though. We have a period around March/April when the mustard grass is growing in the vineyards ( they even have a "Mustard Festival" ).

What kind of riding do you want to do ? You can ride up one side of the valley on Hwy 29 and down the other side on Silverado Trail in about an hour and a half at some times, and it can take about 4 hours at least on a Saturday morning. But there are some great roads around the hills around the valley if that's what you want to do. And as whaap said, Highway 1 is about an hour to the west and runs along some of the most spectacular coastline you'll see anywhere. Again, time of the week and day is key.

PM me if you want more details. Do you want to visit wineries or just ride around ?

I was there in May-June 2005 but I went the other way From San Fransisco down Pacific Highway 1 and the Big sur to San Diego then across to Las Vegas throughDeath Valley to the base of Yosemite (found a great town called Bishop and stayed for 3 days) Then made my way back to San Fransisco via the Yosemite Songar pass with snow 10ft deep but temp in 70's all in all 2800 miles of shear joy.

Bought over $2000 of parts from Dudley Perkins in San Fransisco and various bits on the way just need the 6 lottery numbers and I know were I will be moving to.
