If you don't do something about the cam chain tensioners, the engine absolutely will not last too long! I've read of them wearing out with less than 15,000 miles on them.....I rebuilt a 2003 Heritage "B" engine a couple months ago because the guys cam chain tensioners wore completely out with less than 25,000 miles on the engine! I had to replace all the bearings, etc. When the plastic wears through, it's metal-to-metal contact and those particles ruin every bearing, your lifters, your oil pump, etc.
I did the gear drive cam conversion on a 2000 Fatboy engine with 30,000 miles on it and the cam tensioner shoes were worn half way through....so, bottom line is that you can maintain it and change the fluids religiously but if you don't get those stock cam chain tensioners replaced, or at the very least inspect them every 10,000 miles or so, sooner or later they WILL ruin your engine.
On another note, Harley has changed the cam drive chains and the tensioners for 2007, so it will take a while to see how the new setup holds up.

My father has fellow he works with who has a Police Road King with over 200,000 on the same motor. He takes trips cross country every chance he gets. He says if the bike breaks down he will just rent a Uhaul and come back home. He has not had to do that yet though. Must be nice.
