in my area poker runs happen every single weekend. since I have 0 riding experience I decline my coworkers invitation to go with him because I dont trust my skill level in a big pack of bikes riding close together. my buddies logic was " aww c'mon you cant be any worse then all the drunks runnin into each other at every stop!" wow where do i sign up for that?

Only with friends whose riding skills I am very familiar with. The ONE exception is for Patriot Guard/Warriors Watch funeral escorts. I don't always know some of the decent folks that show up for those, but it's a safe bet there won't be any antics or incidents under those circumstances.
Yes, I have told people I won't ride with them and I told them why.

I ride solo on road trips. Most folks don't roll like me--ie, 500/600 mile days, short breaks, brisk pace, no bar stops, depart motel by 7am, etc.
The company of 3-4 riders is nice on local rides or day trips.

For years, it was just me and my rice burners and maybe a friend or two. But, then, our rides were less than 50 miles, and usually more like 15-20. I never did any large group rides. Except for RT, I never really saw any on the roads either
Now, that I've got a larger bike, I have more interest in the group rides. It's a new thing, so the novelty hasn't worn off yet. We'll have to see how I feel a year from now. Most of the time though, it's just me, Beasly and as much open road as I can find. (Although, usually, it's just me, Beasly and rush hour traffic.)
