I find it ironic that such a liberal state is as lax as it is on bikers. It's a good thing, of course, but I have to wonder why that mentality can't make its way into something as fundamental as the economy.

For the record, I've never seen a "motorcycle only" checkpoint in California….only Border Patrol checkpoints, DUI checkpoints, and truck weigh stations.

Well . . . . as a matter of fact . . . I was pulled over in a CHP Motorcycle Only Check Point on the Ortega Highway just west of Hells Kitchen. This was about a year or maybe a year and a half ago. License, Registration and Proof of insurance check. I would imagine that a breathalyzer test might have awaited some. As it was, they were loading up bikes onto a flatbed tow truck at a fairly rapid clip. As I recall they had about six or seven bikes pulled over when I was "invited" and about the same number when I was "excused." A fellow behind me on a Motoguzzi couldn't produce a proof of insurance as I recall and I saw his bike go by on the aforementioned flatbed tow truck along with a number of other bikes as I sat in Hells Kitchen about a half hour later.

Lived here all my life, rode 74% of it. The only one I ever saw was also a CHP checkpoint but, was done on city streets (under a bridge no less) here in my home town. But, that happened back in the real late '60s or super early '70s. Had me rev up my throttle while under the bridge and wrote me up to too loud of an exhaust.

Never seen one in the nearly 30 yrs I've been in So Cal. They're very lenient on bikes from what I've seen. Unless you ride like an idiot and draw attention to yourself, then you'll get the full Monte, otherwise 99% of officers seem to either pay no attention to bikes at all or are checking it out cuz they like motorcycles.
