Default Buying a bike, need advice

Looking to pick up my next bike and found it but am not sure if I am being taken advantage of. Take a look at this ad and let me know what I am missing for it to be sold at its asking price

Can't even find a custom listed for that model year in KBB so I gotta assume it's a standard with custom parts. If so then it books out for a little under 9K in excellent condition. Custom parts can actually hurt the value. Most people would rather get a fully stock one and then add parts themselves. I spent half the day yesterday taking parts off the one I picked up the day before after the previous owner put them on to make it his idea of a great bike. They were not my cup of tea though. (Not a lot obviously but enough that it changed the appearance more to my liking)

about hit it on the head blackbear. There's a good 4k worth of bolt on parts there. You have to decide if that's the direction you would go with it if you bought a stocker. If it is that price is in the ballpark. 12k on a 8 year old bike just about equals new.Only issue would be cam tensioner but at 12 k I wouldn't worry too much about them yet.Took my 05 down at 22500 and shoe was looking like new still.

What you're missing is...the bike is grossly overpriced.

All of that chrome and powdercoat add on bullshit means nothing in this economy. The owner will never get his money back on that stuff.

The smartest thing the owner can do is pull all that extra bling off the bike, and try to restore it as close to stock as possible, drop the price at least $3K, and pray for an offer.

It's a buyer's market...make an offer with a 24 hour time limit, leave him your card, and walk away.

There is no way in hell that bike sells for $11K in this economy.

The bike is "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it. That is an awesome looking ride so I can't fault the guy for trying to get what he can out of it.

Year: 2004 Make: Harley-Davidson Model: FXST/I Softail Standard Model Type: Cruiser Displacement: 1450 Cylinders: 2 Finance Advance: $7,960
MSRP: $14,295
Avg Retail: $9,740
Auction Wholesale $8,260
Clean Trade: $7,650
Fair Trade: $6,670

This is from Black Both Powersports. There was no listing for a custom, in 2004. It is only a guide, but you should use the search on the Harley website, and see what bikes like this are going for at dealers. I would never pay a private party as much as a dealer.

Personally, I never respond to ads that act like they are doing me a favor to sell me a bike. I understand not wanting to be lowballed, so when I am selling I ask a fair price and say price is firm.

Good luck. Use your head and not your heart to evaluate. Well, at least a little!

Pass...that bike's a dime/dozen (saw two in local HD sale floor yesterday) & both were in $9K range. His bike so let the owner ask what they feel it's worth, but unless "Richie Rich" comes along...it won't sell. IMO - keep looking b/c there are much better deals out there.
