Here is an unbiased recommendation. I have a Deluxe which I love, but I would recommend the Street Glide. Great all around bike IMO. It was not available when I bought a bike. The more I see it the more I like it.

 

As aptly named, choose something from the touring family if your aim is touring. For around town, I like the old school lookof the heritage soft tail but on the road, give me my radio, cruise and air suspension. As mentioned, the tour pack and hard bags are great. They also offer a little bit of security over leather bags. AT the end of a 500 mile day, your body and the wife's will appreciate touring bike.

Yep thats why Harley made the FL's they are a lot better if youre going to put some road miles on. I know Im glad I went with one.

 

I have a Fatboy w/ detachable saddle bags, back rest and windshield so I have the versatility for touring or local cruising and I love it. But.....I only have the one bike. Since your keeping the Sporty I think you should look at the baggers. I was drooling over an Ultra Glide just yesterday, a Screamin' Eagle!

I would look into the touring bikes if you plan on taking long trips two-up or even solo. I've been trying to create a touring bike with my Softail standard and have sunk a lot of money into it. My suggestion would be to test ride a few bikes and think about what you want out of the bike. Find the one that has the comfort you want as well as the bling.

The wife has a Heritage and I have an EG Classic. I prefer the Dresser.
