Default Ahhh Crap

So Sunday a friend and myself left to go meet another one of our friends about 150 miles away. Him and his father were riding up from Florida and we were gonna meet them and ride back with them. On the way there my friend and I rode in the rain for the last 10 miles so we could eat at Cracker Barrel, no biggie. About 15 miles from home my bike goes into limp mode for no apparent reason, I had hit the resume button on the cruise and it just fell on its face. Unhook the Power Commander and it starts just fine and gets me home. After coming home I washed it and looked up what it could be on the forums. I found some talk of the throttle body connector being corroded, so I went looking. Every connection looked fine except for the main Power Commander ECM connection, not the end that plugs into the ECM but the end that plugs into the Power Commander harness. It had 3 corroded pins I thought it was weird but I cleaned it and and rode it to work yesterday, and took a 30 detour after work with no issues. I also took the time last night to put dielectric grease on all my fuses and most of my connectors. I was amazed at how bad some of the fuses were corroded after just 5000 miles. So if I was you guys and you have a rainy day or night, I would start applying dielectric grease on all your connections. Just a little FYI.

I also found out that the guy that I met that rode up from Florida was talking **** to another one of our mutual friends that doesn't ride but is getting serious about getting a Harley. He was telling him "Don't buy a Harley they break down all the time, hey Ryan's couldn't even make it home. My dad and I drove our Hondas from Florida without a single problem." They both have VTX's. His dad gave him his old 1300 and they rode them back. He literlaly has like 3000 miles under his belt and already knows it all. Funny thing is my "broke down" harley is worth 5 times what that Honda is, plus my daddy didn't give it to me. Rant over.

Every model has its problems, don't fool yourself into thinking your hog is worth a ton, it's really not.

Also you may want to rethink your friends if something so petty got your panties in a bunch

Am I out of line to think that a 10 year old VTX is worth about $4-4500?

Not at all, but you are to think a Harley (even a 2012) is worth 20k. Not trying to bust your chops but Harley's depreciate just like everything else.

Agree to disagree, NADA book says differently. Average Retail of mine is $23000 his $4300.

Fair enough, either way; don't let someone or something so simple get under your skin

You lost me at "hit the resume button on the cruise control"

Then again I still can't square away the idea of having a flippin stereo on a Harley.

At least YOU were able to get it running again. That does speak well of you.

I understand where your coming from, I used to think it was sacrilegious myself, but I tell you the cruise is one of the options I'm not sure if I could live with out now. I think I'd give up the radio before the cruise.
