The damn filter always spills oil, every time, no matter what I've tried

I drill/punch small hole in filter to drain and the cardboard usually makes for smaller cleanup. But still have mess to clean up at end of day..

I just uncrewed the filter a bit, and let it drain (while my buddy was watching and saying just pull the damn thing off). then just unscrewed it and let it slide down the cardboard.
I'll prob never be able to do it again

so what do you guys cut the filter with to look for the tensioner pieces?
