Default Stupid oil filter question!

Ok, so I have to swap out my front lower motor mount (again!)....can I take the oil filter off without losing too much oil? Or am I gonna have to drain my almost new oil and lose it in order to do this project? HELP! I'd like to do this tonight so I can ride to work tomorrow!

You shouldn't loose too much oil just by taking the filter off. Maybe a little. Just put a new filter on and "fill" the new filter with oil before putting on. Don't reuse the filter you took off. And if it makes you feel better run the bike and then check the oil .

You can fill the bike with oil without having a filter on and no oil should come t of the filter housing..until you start it with no filter! Lol

Default Even more "stupidity!"

OK, when I first changed the mount (a month or so ago now), I had to remove the filter because the 2 bolts that hold the rear of the plate (that holds the motor mount itself) were broken, I wasn't thinking I did NOT have to remove the filter this time because those aren't broken now! DUH! In any event, I have now replaced the mount (again) with one from J&P....it is more like the original....I HATE the updated mount from HD....this new mount is better, but still not right....I am still getting too much vibration....and the motor just sits there like it's bolted directly to the frame....thus eliminating the benefits of having a rubber mounted motor! I am getting so frustrated! What the hell is wrong? What am I missing?

Most of the oil will come out of the filter.Just a little will drip out of the housing.

Glide Pro makes a better front motor mount than the original. I replaced mine with the HD up dated mount and almost vibrated the fillings out of my teeth. Once I went to the Glide Pro mount the vibration problem is not an issue. Oil contamination is the number one reason the front mount fails. When you do an oil change cover the mount the best you can with rages to catch oil from the old filter. I've watched too many shops clean up the mess with carb cleaner. That stuff will degraded rubber faster than our economy.
