There is a sticky in the oil section about this very topic and has about 20 pages.
I use red line shockproof
heavy however any gear oil will work better than motor oil.
Gear oil seems to help the clunk going into gear,helps eliminate the notchy shift feeling and makes neutral easier to find.
You are going to get alot of opinions,but in the end your gonna have to choose something. Just remember it's as easy to drain out as it was to pour in.

Too funny!
I just switched from Amsoil 20w-50 to Amsoil 75w110 Severe Gear on the pretense of heeding the advice of one of the oil threads. And to see if it IS in fact better.(?) Would have gone with the Redline, but none to be found hereabouts.
