Due to a paint job, (won't be ready when I had hoped), it looks like I'll be breaking my bike in on the road going from Columbus, Ga to Deadwood, S.D. Can I stop in a HD shop on the way for my 1,000 miler?

Of course, but if you got free service checks as part of the purchase only the selling dealership is going to honor that.

 

I guess I thought that the 1000 miler was "included" in the purchase. Needless to say I'll be checking with my dealer but just thought I'd throw out the question.

Nope,, only the dealer U bought Ur bike at can do anything to her.....
Just kidding... Can U stop at any Ford, GM, Chy, dealer and have warranty work/ or any work done.... YES....

its the same with the MoCo..... Take U owners manual and have them check off all that was done

Normally, service is NOT included in the purchase price. Harley is not like some car makers that include free scheduled maintenance during the warranty period. Because scheduled maintenance is normally not included, I would imagine that if your dealer made a deal with you regarding scheduled service, you would know instead of "I thought the 1000 miler is included."

Bottom line is that you'd better have some extra bucks w/ you for the service. Call the dealers on your route for prices so you can pick the most cost effective shop. Prices can vary pretty widely between shops.

 

From reading a lot of the post here,looks the dealers charge $250-$450 for the 1K.

 

amzoil has an oil change service at sturgis...unless you are having some issues that you feel need addressing. change all the fluids and get a full service at 5k. after that fluids every 5k. i do fluids only one time and have the dealer do a full service next time.
