Not so fast. You can very well claim future earnings from the kid. I am not suggesting anything, just want you to know the facts. He will need to carry the debt (your winnings) for the rest of his life. Paychecks will be garnished, taxes, etc...

Do what is best for your fam. If that means moving on, so be it. I.wish you the best.

They all wanted upwards of 20 grand to get started to pay for investigators and other costs, plus their substantial cut of the winnings. My parents weren't rich, they worked hard, and enjoyed life and gave their kids a good life but they worked hard for it. She had a safe small offer from his insurance company and she took the sure thing. She just turned 50 and has a long life to live without his help now. She doesn't have any fight left. Honestly their not even 100% who was driving the car. It was the mom's car and her 20 something son said he was driving, but they suspect the mom was but can't prove it. They own some business but the son is in college with no income or job so they said there's nothing to go after.

Default My Condolences

Seems like we are extending our sympathies and condolences to way too many of our members so soon in the season.

Sorry for your loss. It isn't enough, I Know.

And you are right, if you settle the score yourself, you and your family will pay.

I know that right now there isn't a lot of fight left in you and your mom, but civil court may be all that is left, and even if there isn't any money, "stamping" them as the criminal for this should still be done.

No one should be able to walk away from a wrongful death, injury, destruction of property without acknowledgement that they were at fault and responsible for the consequences. You may not ever collect, but it is a debt that the responsible party should carry.

Sometimes things are accidents, more often then not it is negligence and/or irresponsibility and that needs to be acknowledged.

That **** sucks. I'm not an attorney so I have no idea if you have a civil suit or not. I'd find one of those that don't charge you up front only if you win places and go after them. If that doesn't work either spend your free time pushing for bikers rights and trying to change the laws or just let it go. The alternative lands YOU in prison for a bit and I doubt you feel like doing time yourself.

Thanks for the all the condolences and shows of support. This process just feels like it's gone on forever. I'm just pretty hot about the whole thing still...probably will be forever. Riding was his favorite thing to do. People that don't ride ask how I can still ride. I know when I'm riding he's right there next to me, I can feel it. It's a freedom that only those that do it know and understand. Plus if I quit I can see him telling me that people get run over walking into the grocery store to buy toilet paper...am I going to quit walking across parking lots? I just want to be involved in something that shows a person on a motorcycle is not just a "bad biker"

I'm sorry for your loss.

Not to hijack your thread....

I know a lot of members are Hog members and a good part are part of a local chapter. I believe that everyone should look into joining the AMA. They fight for bikers rights and stiffer penalties for people those who injure and even murder riders.

Just my 2 cents. I think you get what I mean. Speak up, be heard. Join the AMA or any other organization that supports bikers rights. Write or call your local politicians and tell them how you feel about people getting away with murder.

Thanks.

Sorry for your loss. There are no words.

If you choose not pursue civil action, I would find a newspaper or TV news at the very least. Someone will be willing to take your story further.

I'm speechless. A fine, community service, and a letter. Where is the justice?

Pursue it. Through some means. Be it a civil suit or just through the media. But bring it to light so the world can see.
