Default Thought I won a raffle bike today...then shot down

I get this random call from the dealership this morning..."Hi, this is Jake from Harley Wood...Wow, I'm sorry, Kingwood Harley Davidson" (we got a good laugh out of that one)

"I have your sweepstakes ticket here and was wondering if you wanted to come look at some bikes" (my heart starts to race knowing that I entered the drawing a few months ago)

I said, "What?"

"Well you entered our sweepstakes to win a motorcycle a few months back... (he's got me really going now, then right away says...) I'm not saying you won the sweepstakes or anything (really...really?) I just was seeing if you wanted to come in and look at some new bikes and see if we can get you a good deal"

At this point I was pissed, I said "No, I just bought my Iron about 7 months ago, the only way I am coming in to look at or pick up a bike is if I won one"

So he laughs and says "Ok sir, sorry to bother you and have a great day"

They must be hurting pretty bad to be calling people that entered the raffle to ask if they want to come buy a bike...Anyways, thought it was messed up that he would lead me on like that and then tell me that I didn't win.

Typical "prospective buyer" set-up. One person wins a bike, and they might actually sell new bikes to a quarter of those that signed up. That's a lot more customer contacts than if they just wait for someone to walk in.

Sometimes the warrant squad uses the sweepstakes ploy to get bad guys to come to them.

All raffle entry's are used as a form of information farming for furthering sales. Anytime you have ever entered a raffle, you better believe your information was used or sold to someone looking to target some type of product to you.

It's marketing folks, nothing more. (except the set ups, those are a friggin riot) Of all the solicitations and sales calls, at least it was from a Harley Dealer.
