Hog Patch
#12
HI All... My name is Rob, and I am a former officer of the Windward HOG Chapter.
Back in Late 2008, Windward HOG was just a skeleton of a chapter, looking for a core group to breathe life into it. Due to a riff in another Chapter, many of us left that Chapter and moved to Windward HOG, and began a rebirth.
Lots of people who enjoyed each other's company and cameraderie. Fun laughter and great rides... we rode on Saturdays, as thats what the others did there before us. (The other two chapters ride Sundays) The chapter grew to what it is, now and we had fun.. I rode with the chapter for 2 years, before my schedule screwed up Saturday rides for me.
I spent the next year not riding with anyone... and commuted to and from work.... my plate was pretty full with My various positions on the Hawaii State HOG Rally committee from 2009 to current.
I retained my membership the entire time with Windward HOG... and attended a couple of functions through the years.
At the Windward HOG Christmas party last year, we were read a letter by our then sponsoring dealer, Domenico's, indicating that effective Feb 29 2012, Doms would cease being an HD dealership. (political reasons withheld)
Unfortunate as thier HOG Chapter was indeed the strongest and most reflective of HOGs ideals...
HOWEVER, a dialogue with HOG Regional manager was opened and what was discovered was that we were not alone in our plight.
Dealerships across the country with great chapters were closing, leaving customers without the group to ride with.
What we were told was that HOG corporate was working on a solution to allow a sponsoring dealer to allow more than one non-conflicting chapters under thier dealership number.
Since the HOG Charter is signed for a year, WWHOG will be allowed to continue under its charter through the end of the year. So yes, they are STILL a HOG Chapter, and membership requirements are still the same as any HOG chapter operationg under the HOG guidelines and Chapter Handbook.
Hawaii has a unique "distributorship" for all HD bikes that come into state. Pacific HD is the distributor, who in turn sells and distributes bikes to the individual dealers.
IIRC the individual dealer numbers still exist... while they look for a new party to take over the dealership.
Time will tell here, but the people who formed and ride with WWHOG will ride together...

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that if you wear a chapther patch you must have a authorize harley davidson dealer as your sponsor. We have a chapther here in Hawaii that lost thier sponsoring dealership due to them not selling Harley's anymore but continue to wear and fly the patch of the Windward Hogs. They also continue to maintain a hog chapther web page http://www.windwardhog.net/
Sir, on behalf of the entire world I want to commend you on the service that you have carried out here today.
You have opened my eyes to something that I had no idea was going on.
I for one am shocked and dismayed at how anyone could even contemplate wearing an authorized HOG patch. They dishonor us all with their actions.
Just kidding don't care not sure why you do and not sure you really live in Hawaii. I have information that you are from Guam and are trying to bring the Guam/Hawaii HOG war here to the mainland.
We won't stand for it.
Just kidding don't care.
