Default When All Else Fails - Read The Instructions

So I was finally motivated to install the tourpak hinges I bought last fall. I had previously installed the tourpak LED light kit and had since bought the tourpak liner to bury the wiring. I figured, as long as I was going to bury the wires I might as well install the tourpak trunk light kit and bury those wires at the same time. As long as I was going to pull the tourpak off to make the install easier I might as well install the hinges.

Unlike a lot of my previous mods ALL of these changes went really easy. I was surprised how easily the hinges went on, the liner didn't take 5 minutes and the trunk light was a no brainer - or so I thought! Harley directions (as per my past experiences) are usually lacking. When all was said and done, the trunk light didn't work.

Now, as per my past experiences, I walked away from the bike and ran thru things in my head. What in the world could I have done wrong? It's only 2 friggin wires! Blown fuse? I appeared to have juice up to the light! After I had "given up" I put the bike back together figuring I'd figure it out later. If it was a bad light assembly I'd have to take it apart again and make a warranty exchange.

WELL - I cleaned up, put the tools away and sat down to relax. While sitting I decided to take a look over the instructions AGAIN to see if I missed anything. SEEMS THAT THE LAST PARAGRAPH IN THE INSTRUCTION TELL YOU HOW TO TURN ON THE LIGHT! DUHHHHHHHH!!!!! It's not automatic on, just automatic off!!

LIKE I SAID - WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, READ THE DIRECTIONS!

Really?
I don't think my wife has ever read any instruction manual.
She expects me to do it for her.

Default It Could Have Been Nicer!

Verdict is out on the light! My feeling is that as long as it keeps working it will be worth the $$$. I've had various tap lights in the tourpak and they were all self destructing (shook apart). Harleys light is neet, fitted and has an extremely low amp draw. It definately lights things up enough so you can see what you are doing at night. You have to push the face of the light to turn it on but it has an automatic off feature "in case something in the tourpak bumps into it" while riding. Some sort of automatic on feature when the lid is opened would have been nicer!

Wires where involved you gotta use masking tape not duct tape.

Not kidding there , had bike come through a while back with blue masking tape on some wiring . The guy liked the color ................

Now that's something I haven't seen in awhile. Helped a friend back in the day and that was exactly what holding the wires together.

Guess it could have been velcro just in case you need to add another accessory.
