Importing USA to Canada
I live in Ontario and am looking for a used Harley. Despite the general parity of our dollars, there seem to be much better deals (and better choices) on used Harleys in the states.
Anyone here know the process and costs of bring a bike from US into Ontario?
Just trying to work out math

i imported 2 other the past few years, approx $1k in transport, you have to pay one tax when you import it, the other one when you plate it and it is based on what you pay for the bike, there is no duty and it costs approx $150 to inspect etc. I never had to change the speedo on it, i save a ton doing this, you need whats called a Recall Letter from Deeley Canada, you need to go online and fill out the RIV, registrar of imported vehicles, brokerage is also about $150 charge, last one i did was in 2009. I heard Deeley is a little tougher to deal with but as long as it is used it should be fine. PM if you need more info.

Trozenhorse thanks for feedback.....a couple of more questions if you don't mind. Did you buy at dealer or online privately? I have seen great deals compared to Canada--even if I add $1000 transport.
Can I go to states and bring bike back on trailer? BY inspection I assume you mean safety check.....anything else is helpful.
I assume you found it cost beneficial to buy in usa?
my email is richard@globalbackpackers.com
thanks

I imported two Harleys, one from NH and one from Maine. I rode them back with temporary plates from the state I bought them in. I had a insurance card from my broker here in NB. I got both bikes from a dealer who provided me with the recall letter.
A inspection is done by Canadian Tire for the RIV and is included in the $225 fee to import the bike at the border.
Check the RIV site as some Harleys need changes to lights etc. before they can pass the RIV inspection, these changes are listed on the site.
