Pressed together crankshafts that can twist are not what I would consider well built.

The pre-2003 Twin Cams were much higher quality than the 2003-later. But you might need to go back to the evo to get a well built motor. 1999

On Sportsters, the motor is well built to this day, but 2006 was the last year that was mostly unaffected by smog crap, but fortunately it is still not nearly as bad as the TC bikes
The cranks are all pressed together. The con rods don't have caps on them to be installed on a solid crankshaft. I have never heard of a solid crank harley.

Hell my first new HD a 93 Springer was lean burn, they told me not to panic when I pulled and checked the plugs the first time the mech told me he'd take care of it when I brought it in for the 500mi because they knew I was going to be changing out the pipes and intake.

Can't ignore the electric bikes 2018-2021. The Hydrogen fueled bikes 2021-2035.
I won't count the nuclear models that will come out in 2036. (They won't be environmentally friendly, Zombies don't care).

2002 might be a good year for EFI bikes. Got the Delphi system that year. 2001 EFI was atrocious.

I wonder what the last year was they were built entirely from parts made in the USA?

I'd be surprised if any Harley built since 1903 had all parts made in the USA.

Prior to the twinkies, the big twin cranks were bolted together...not one piece, but not pressed together and susceptible to twisting out of true.

2000 and later Sportys are also pressed together cranks, but there has not been a big problem seen with them that is being seen with the Twin Cams.

Yep, but that's not the problem.

'02 was the last year of the Timken Lefty bearing which supported the hot forged crank so well. It's only available now through the S/E P&A book at rebuild time.

'03 they went to a cold forged crank ( still decent,) then '07 that weak cast crank ( not so much!)

Biggest problem was the 07 cast cranks that slipped too frequently.

Personally wouldn't own anything newer than '02. ( Currently workin' on my second 100,000 miles on my '00 S/E RG.)
