Default discolored pipes on 12 sg

I hav a 12 sg with only 900 miles on it. It is going onto the shop for its 1000 mile this week end. I was checking out things on it today and I noticed that the pipe from the front jug is purple, under the shielding. I know this is caused from heat, and I guessing this is where the cats are. he motor is completely stock. Is this normal. I mean all my pipes on all my bikes discolored eventually, but only 900 miles, really? Is this normal? Thanks for any serious responces.

It's from the heat, and that's what heat shields are for. Don't sweat it.

Had an Indy install a Supermeg on my Heritage right before a 1,000 mile strip. I noticed at the first stop (about 375 miles) that it was discolored right after the headpipe and at the end. They didn't wipe them down before I got it and it was from fingerprints. Guess I should've done it but just figured they would've. I was pissed and there wasn't much I could do as the ride was my last trip from SoCal to Denver and I wasn't going back.

yep stevieg, i just unwrapped a new set of pipe's. some sort of oil on them, i wiped them down with vinegar and a clean rag. will do the same once i install them, before i fire up the motor. i did not wipe my last set of pipe's down properly and one of the muffler's had a cracked dried mud pattern effect , stained into the chrome. it never went away neither. you could see it a certain angle, annoyed me, but lesson learn't.

Thanks guys. I guess that is what I figured but wasn't 100% sure. Like I said every pipe I ever had discolored, just not after the first 900 miles.

My Bonneville's pipes start at a bright blue at the head and taper to a gold color right before the mufflers, looks just like a Triumph should look. My Heritage looks about the same under the heat shield.

Brand New Cobra Power port head pipes. Turned purple right at the first turn out of the head within the first 5 minutes it ran. Obviously rear cylinder turned darker than the front. And that is with a Tuner installed.
